Garden Gnome “Ottokar the Swing Rider”

A unique garden gnome that conveys lightness and joy! “Ottokar the Swing Rider” is a special model designed around 1910 by the Hertwig company. The company was active from 1903 to 2001, and the mold for this charming gnome was saved from destruction. Today, it is faithfully recreated by Zwergstatt Gräfenroda using traditional craftsmanship.

Zwergstatt Gräfenroda has carried this name since 2021 and traces its origins back to the Philipp Griebel ceramic manufactory, founded in 1874. As the world’s last traditional garden gnome manufactory, we proudly preserve this cultural heritage.

Craftsmanship & Quality Each figure is handcrafted with great attention to detail, making every piece unique in its painting and weight. Our gnomes are fired at 1922°F (1050°C) and then meticulously hand-painted with multiple layers of color, giving them exceptional depth and character.

Uniqueness & Collector’s Value Each garden gnome is a one-of-a-kind piece, handcrafted in Germany using high-quality regional raw materials. The production process takes several days, with every step performed with the utmost care.

Weatherproof, but not frostproof Our garden gnomes are weather-resistant but should be protected from prolonged moisture and frost to maintain their beauty over time.

Exclusive at EXPO 2025 Osaka As the only Thuringian manufactory, our products will be permanently available in the on-site shop throughout EXPO 2025 in Osaka.
