This exceptional ceramic planter in the shape of a gondola is a historic garden gnome piece originally designed by the Hertwig company around 1910. Combining sculptural craftsmanship with playful storytelling, the planter features a charming garden gnome seated on a gondola-like vessel adorned with decorative architectural reliefs.
The open bowl at the top is intended as a planter; however, this piece is designed strictly as a cachepot (overpot). To preserve the ceramic material, soil must not come into direct contact with the clay. We recommend using a separate inner pot or liner.
Each planter is traditionally crafted from ceramic and hand-painted, resulting in subtle variations that underline its authenticity and collector’s value. This piece is ideal for indoor decoration, shelves, sideboards, or protected areas, and is especially sought after by collectors of historic garden gnomes and early 20th-century ceramics.
A rare and characterful object that represents the rich tradition of German ceramic garden art.
