Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs – Historic Ceramic Figurine from Germany
Once upon a time, there was a young princess with skin as white as snow, lips as red as blood, and hair as black as ebony – her name was Snow White. Deep in the forest, seven kind-hearted dwarfs gave her shelter and protection. In the 1930s, this beloved fairy tale scene was captured in clay by the talented modeler Hermann Reise, who created a unique design for the famous Hertwig company.
This precious cultural artifact was nearly lost forever when the Hertwig factory site was scheduled for demolition. But Zwergstatt Gräfenroda – a direct successor of the historic Philipp Griebel workshop (founded in 1874) – rescued the original molds and revived this masterpiece. Today, it is once again handcrafted in Germany, using the same traditional hollow casting technique.
After being cast, Snow White and her seven dwarfs are air-dried for several days. Then, they are fired at 1922 °F (1050 °C) in the kiln to ensure maximum durability. Each figurine is hand-painted in several layers, giving every dwarf a unique personality – cheerful, thoughtful, shy or bold.
This ensemble is more than decoration – it’s a story come to life. Whether for your garden or interior space, this handcrafted ceramic piece brings a touch of fairy-tale magic into your home.
Crafted entirely by Zwergstatt Gräfenroda – the world’s last traditional ceramic gnome manufacturer.
